• Hello,

I’m trying to decide between using WordPress or Drupal. I am new to both. I’ve gone through the forums and searched the net and haven’t really found much. I’ve most likely overlooked the answer so I apologize for the newbie question.

I would like to create a site that will allow certain users to login with a username and password that I provide, or one they create on their own, then be redirected to their personal page where they can view information/messages that are specifically tailored to them and no one else. I would also like them to be able to view, print, and download files that I place in their personal directories that only they have access to. And all of this should be done securely.

Is a website like this better suited to WordPress or Drupal? How would I go about this in WordPress? I’d like to avoid having to learn any programming, but I will if needed.

Thanks very much for your help.

  • I would be able to use something along these lines as well. I have searched all over but with no luck. I would like to create a plugin but am still learning some of the developer documentation available for wordpress. Anyone else onboard or have any leads on a possible plugin that matches these criteria?

When you login as a WP user you are automatically redirected to your own personal profile page. It isn’t hard to add content to that page. Users also have access to a truncated Dashboard. Also not hard to add content to that page.

I am looking for the exact same features, and have spent months trying to find ways to make wordpress work in such a way, but have not found much.

I run a class website with students and want them to have their own personal content page as a part of their dashboard. I haven’t found any sort of plugin or tool that enables this. There are a lot of dashboard editors, but nothing that specifically allows users to maintain their own “blog” of sorts.

I’m aware of wordpress mu but holy crap those instructions go way deeper than I would like to go in the inter-chambers of filing etc.

I would love to hear any suggestions that other users have found!
