User Account seems to not have Admin Privileges (5 posts)

Background: I belong to a Saddle Club and we pay for a person to host our website. We are responsible for all updates to the website. We have no control over users.

Recently I tried to log in and out login ID and Password no longer worked. I selected the reset password button to send an e-mail to the person that hosts the site asking to reset the password. Here is the response I got from my admin.

" I got it reset, but it looks like it supposedly permanently changed the username from "admin" to my name now...which is weird. Here is the new info"

The problem is, that when I use the new ID, I no longer have access to my pages for editing or content library. I have access to Google Calendar and Posts only. I do not have access to the widgets I installed or the .css stuff. Here is the response from my host when I reported the problem - I have no idea how to get it back to a place where I know what's going on... "I really don't know what to do to help at this point! I wish I did!" The site is located at the following: http://www.elbiemarketing.com/scandiariders/.

Is there some instructions I can give the admin to get our permissions set or back.

Thanks for any and all help!!!

  2. I've never heard of login names *magically* changing themselves from "admin" to something else, like a user name. It's not possible to re-name an existing account. What's more likely is that your admin has created a new account for you, giving it a new user name in the process. What he forgot to do was to set your role to "Administrator" for your user account.

    1. Contact your admin, and ask him to make sure that the account he gave you has fill admin privileges over the site.
    2. I think something smells fishy... like I said, usernames dont *change themselves* so I'd maybe look into that or consider moving your site to a new host. I'd be looking for a "Plan B" right now...

Yeah - Either way I am going to move to a new host. Just hope to be able to take my content with me when I go...

  4. Do you have access to Tools>Export from within the dashboard?

If you can get to that panel on the dashboard, then at least that will give you a copy of the pages and posts on your site. Lacking that, I'd start "copying and pasting" stuff into a text document.

To have your admin say, "I really don't know what to do to help at this point! I wish I did!" is just a load of malarkey, IMHO. Very shady...

I know - I manage a web content system called Vignette
for a living. This site is for a club I belong to.
