I used Fantastico with Blue Host to install WP. That worked better the second time around. Anyway, now I want to use a different theme. I unzipped the theme contents, now where do I go to put them so that my wp-admin sees them?

    wp-content/themes/ ?

    codex.wordpress.org. Read all of that.

You need a file path that looks like this:
    /public_html/blog/wp-content/themes/aphrodite for example.

Yes, I know I need that file path. Question is, where to find it? Again, when Fantastico does its automatic install, it’s not like the manual install where you upload things from your folders on your computer. Fantastico does that for you. So, XeroCool, codex.wordpress.org doesn’t cover where you are supposed to look to find those files.

So, has anyone here used Fantastico that can tell where this wp-content folder lies or where I’m supposed to put it, if I have to make it myself?

There are many resources where you can download new themes, this is a good starting point:

    http://codex.wordpress.org/Using_Themes#Get_New_Themes

You’ll need to upload these into your wp-content/themes folder.

If you know you need the file path you should be able to find it. I am presuming you have ftp access to your web space. Just fire it up and navigate thru your directories. In Fantastico the install goes in a directory of your choice. Assuming you have remembered it wp-content is in there.

    @jwrichard,
after uploading/installing with Fantastico – forget about it, I mean Fantastico. You cannot do anything with after that.
You need a FTP client (software) to upload files and folders to your server place. (Actually you could use some kind of File MAnager, too, but I wouldn’t trust them.)

    jwrichard,

Give us a link to the web site, that would help…

The link to my website is http://www.mandrakesociety.com. Blue Host is hosting the site.

Thanks, moshu, because that’s where my confusion lies–in finding this particular folder. When I downloaded WP from the site and unzipped it on my computer, I saw all the folders including wp-content. However, I had a tough installing on the site.

One of the reasons I went with BlueHost is because of their WP script upload through Fantastico, so I decided to load it there. No problems, except when I went to my File Manager in the CPanel, I didn’t see any specific folders for WP. Thus, my confusion in downloading a new theme, unzipping it, and putting in that wp-content folder–where is it? Or where can a establish one?

Avoid the file manager. Use http://ftp.Fantastico will have installed to a directory (folder) inside public html. The name of that directory will be whatever you told fantastico to create.

Did you have Fantastico email you the installation details? If not, perhaps you might email your host support contact and ask them to give you the details. Another thing you can do is go back into Fantastico, click on WordPress in the sidebar list, and it will show SOME details of your install: for instance, one of my Fantastico installs gives this when WP is selected from the script list –
    Current installations:
    /pov (1.5) Visit site Remove

/pov is the folder in which this install was made.

That might give you at least a direction in which to look. Alternatively, you can open public_html in cpanel or your ftp client and simply click on all the folders until you find where WP is installed.

    your path is http://mandrakesociety.com/wp-content/themes/
if you ftp to your public_html folder you should see the folder wp-content

The solution was this: Using Blue Host’s Ultimate FTP server, I was able to find the /public_html/ folder, which held the wp-content/themes, and simply drag and drop the new themes into that folder. (Unfortunately some of those themes were without stylesheets, and I’m still learning how to do that. I think you’ll like the themeI picked for the site, though)

    Thanks for all your help.

Just use an ftp program and go point it to the ftp host IP you will have access to all the files on your sever. Then just upload the themes into your theme folder in wp-contents. fantastico does not do anythiing different. it installed it in the root public directory.

    I use this free program.
