Use Parent Images in Child Theme

I created a child theme (copied and made the basic child modifications to the style.css file from the parent and placed in the child directory) , but the problem is that images weren’t being pulled in at all from the parent. So, I duplicated the parent’s images directory (with all image files included) inside the child directory, and everything works properly, but that seems like a hack to me.

Is there a way to have the images properly displayed without duplicating the parent’s image directory inside of the child?
