Use existing Custom Field Keys in Simple Fields (3 posts)

    I tried Simple Fields Plugin but could't figure out how to use my existing custom fields. I have a lot of existing custom field keys which I want only have a nicer form in Post Editor.

    Is it possible to use Simple Fields with my old custom field keys and values?
    Like for example custom Field "release-date", "year", etc. so I dont have to rebuild all fields and call them with my existing theme files using
    get_post_meta($post->ID, 'release-date', true);

    And where do I find the simple fields "show custom field key" link described here: http://simple-fields.com/documentation/getting-started/tutorial-part-2/

    I don't see such a link in Field Groups, nor Box Editor of simple fields?!

    At the moment it's not possibly to use your own/existing keys. It may be possible in the future.

    The custom keys-link is visible when you edit a post and have enabled simple fields for that post.

    Thanks Pär for the quick reply. Can't belive this is the fourth Custom Fild Plugin wich I tested doesnt support using existing custom field keys.. Makes this kind of plugins useless for most scenarios were you want to enhance your existing Blog with Post Editor Forms for custom fields. Definitly a feature you should implement.

    I stick to custom Code in my functions.php as decribed here:
    http://www.deluxeblogtips.com/2010/04/how-to-create-meta-box-wordpress-post.html

    For others searching for a Plugin Solution: "Custom Fields Creator" and "Meta Box" seem to support existing custom Fields.
