   I had a good search for this and could not find anything (maybe i'm just crap at searching).

   I'm after a plugin that converts your most popular tags into categories.

   Obviously most popular tags is already something that gets measured, for tag cloud font sizes.

   I'd like to take a customizable percentage of the most popular tags and convert them into categories to be displayed in a list in sidebar. So maybe top 12 tags out of 30 for example, based on number of times tags are used.

   Does anyone know of such a plugin?

   I've just noticed that WordPress.org uses this functionality in the plugins directory left menu -- 'MOST POPULAR TAGS'. Using this terminology in my search for the plugin I managed to find one that does the job (I think -- I haven't tried it yet):
