It used to work until half an hour ago...
Suddenly all the http://domain.com/page-name/ urls don't work, and http://domain.com/category/post-name/ urls don't work either. I get 404 errors instead. (And the 404 error isn't the usual wordpress 404 page either.) However, I do know my site is up because I can access directories that actually exist.
Is this a wordpress problem, or my webhost problem?

Mine isn't working either! I can't get to my web site or the WP-Admin. I get the error 400. What does this mean? I have my entire portfolio on this web site and I can't lose it. Could SOMEONE please help me...please???!!!!

try http://domain.com/?p=1 to see if it is a permalinks problem, possible your .htaccess file was deleted or corrupted.
You may want to post your site address, it would help.
oh I can get to wp-admin because that folder actually exists. the problem is with the other... virtual folders(?)
talk to your webhost first. if wordpress was running and couldn't find the page or document you should get the wordpress 404 page not the ISP/webhost error 404 page
Jonno: Oh, the ?p= works. so my htaccess was deleted? how do I get it back...?
jland, as suggested above: reset your permalinks to default. The blog works with that, e.g. http://jlandsub.com/?p=65
After that you'll have time to figure out what went wrong.

Ok - my site is http://www.socialtalkers.com
It is still not working and nothing seems to be wrong with my webhost...I've asked other people who are using different webhosts and they can't answer it either. I'm sorry, maybe I'm doing something wrong...could you suggest something for me like you did for jland? Thanks!
That's NOT the WP htaccess.
socialtalk, instead of posting here you should have contacted your host when you noticed the site doesn't come up.
nothing seems to be wrong with my webhost
HOW do you know that???
Okay, I figured out something!
after disabling my hotlink protection, it works.
But what does that mean? What do I need to add to my hotlink protection to make it bypass wordpress?

Is this the address you wanted? This is what is not working for me:
http://socialtalkers.com/wp-admin
Along with the site itself
I don't need that. clicking on your name I get this:
http://www.socialtalkers.com/
A message like that = urgent phone/email to my host!!!

Moshu, sorry, I'm not as savvy on here, I know that is frustrating. :) Okay, I reason I thought nothing was wrong with my webhost is because the other sites on there come up fine. Is it possible that just my site is messed up?
A host usually has a lots of machines/servers.
Are you sure all your sites are on the same box?
Look, we can "social talk" here all day along... :) and your site still won't be fixed because you are wasting your time chatting here instead of doing the right thing: talking to your host.

Thanks, I learned something so it wasn't a waste of my time. :) Have a good day.
can I change this to resolved now?
Thanks for all your help. I'll figure out the hotlink protection on my own first.
jland, you can change it to resolved any time you feel it is "solved". It is your topic = you started it, which means only you (or a mod) can change its status.
