My next question is how to get rid of “category” in the url for the category page.
I would like my url to read:
mysite.com/categoryname
instead of:
mysite.com/category/categoryname
Edit: Actually, you can probably (not sure as I’ve never tried it) get rid of /category/ by using category based permalink structure. However, it’s not recommended as explaied in the article I’ve linked below.
Also, because of the way WordPress’ rewrite system works, you may encounter performance issues down the track. Read http://ottopress.com/2010/category-in-permalinks-considered-harmful/ for the explanation.
