[resolved] URL Link Button On Post Page Stopped Working (3 posts)

    Hello,

Yesterday, or perhaps the day before -- I can't remember now -- I discovered that the URL link button on WP's post page is no longer working. In other words, if I select text in a post that I am composing, and then click on the URL link button, nothing is happening. The little window is no longer appearing on my screen where I enter the actual URL. The only way that I can add a link at this current time is if I switch from the "Visual" tab to the "HTML" tab and then manually add the HTML code for the link.

Other than updating "Xcloner-backup-and-restore" four days ago, installing SEO Smart Links Premium Personal version the day before that are the only changes that I have made to my WP setup this past week.

I honestly don't see how Xcloner could affect the URL link button, being as it is in no way related to it, and I don't even run Xcloner everyday. On the other hand, there would seem to be a more direct relationship between the URL link button and SEO Smart Links.

BTW, I deactivated both Xcloner and SEO Smart Links one at a time, and the problem still persists.

Has anyone else experienced this anomaly? If so, how did you resolve it?

I have posted a similar message on the SEO Smart Links support forum.

    Thanks!

    Have you tried:

    - checking through Troubleshooting WordPress 3.1 - Master List

    - deactivating all plugins to see if this resolves the problem. If this works, re-activate the plugins one by one until you find the problematic plugin(s).

    - switching to the Twenty Ten theme to rule out any theme-specific problems.

    - resetting the plugins folder by FTP or PhpMyAdmin. Sometimes, an apparently inactive plugin can still cause problems.

    - re-uploading the wp-admin and wp-includes folders from a fresh download of WordPress.

Well, I don't know how or why, but just as mysteriously as it stopped working, the link button started working again yesterday. To my knowledge, I did absolutely nothing to make this happen.

Right before realizing that it was working again, all I did was select some text in a new post that I was working on, and I set its style to indent and italic.

After that, when I went to add a link to some text that was further down in the same post, that is when I realized that the link button was working again.

I am wondering if somehow something got "stuck", and using the "indent" and "italic" buttons first somehow fixed the "link" button.

I honestly don't know. I am just guessing here. I am mystified.
