url and link issues (9 posts)

I designed our new site on the new host we were going to link our existing domain to. Now the url I used to setup the wordpress site was of course the direct server url and not the actual domain name url.

The folder in which the wordpress installation is as follows: http://server50.hostpoint.ch/~rockpock/rockpocketgames/

The proper url now after we changed the entries to the new host is http://www.rockpocketgames.com which is pointed at the folder above.

Can I change either the site url or home url in the wordpress backend to make sure the links are correct with the rockpocketgames.com included and not the server50 or do I have to change something in the database?

I looked at http://codex.wordpress.org/Changing_The_Site_URL but it's still confusing to me.

    Should I use this?
    RewriteEngine On
    RewriteCond %{HTTP_HOST} ^(www.)?YourDomain.com$
    RewriteRule ^(/)?$ blog [L]

I would really appreciate any kind of feedback, thanks :)

See Changing_The_Site_URL for details of how to do this.

I mentioned that link in my OP and said I am still confused as to how to exactly do it for my case.

    What I am confused about:
The url http://www.rockpocketgames.com is pointed at http://server50.hostpoint.ch/~rockpock/rockpocketgames

Both the WordPress Address and Site Address in the General settings are set to http://server50.hostpoint.ch/~rockpock/rockpocketgames

Can I just change both of them to http://www.rockpocketgames.com in the general settings or is that going to break the DB and links completely?

Sorry I am a total newb when it comes to domain redirects and folder pointing which includes databases.

Yes - using one of the methods listed in the page I linked to above.

Hehe sorry for being such a pain esmi, and thanks for your feedback but I still didn't get a direct answer :)

Can I just change both of them to http://www.rockpocketgames.com in the general settings or is that going to break the DB and links completely?

So can I just change the two urls in the wordpress backend or do I need to use one of the more complicated methods?

That will break the site. Please follow the instructions in the page I linked to above.

Well, I added the domain with the help of phpmyadmin as mentioned under "Changing the URL directly in the database" but I ended up breaking everything (doubleckeched the url and it was correct both for "siteurl" and "home".

For some reason wordpress didn't recognize the same pages with http://www.rockpocketgames.com
