I was attempting to change the header colors, checked on the site to see the result, and the site has completely gone except for two highlighted colons after now-invisible links at the top of the page.

How can I get back to where I was before I started to change colors?

Change to a different theme, and reload the theme you 'hurt'.

    Hi MichaelH:

I appreciate your reply, but here's what happened:

I switched to the Default theme and accepted that, then I went back to Financial Green and again all I see is two highlighted colons.

    What now?

Restore your theme files from backup or redownload the theme from where you got it originally.

Okay Michael, thank you. I will ask Hostgator to reinstall the backup of the blog. Any idea what I may have done that was wrong? I don't want to make the same mistake twice and I would still like different header colors.

    No idea really.

See Designing Headers for more info.

Please review WordPress Backups to learn about backing up files (such as themes and plugins) and your database (which contains posts/pages/comments/users).

Somewhere down in the post chain, you mention the database that houses posts, comments, etc. What is that file called?? I lost my site too and I am freaking out! Any comment would help!

A database really isn't just a file you have access to--that's why you need to know about database backups as well as 'file' backups.

    Hi Michaael:

The problem appears to be with the Financial Green theme. I think I broke it! It seems to be that the theme itself now just has two highlighted colons and nothing else.

Try downloading and installing a new copy of that theme.

    Michael:

Disaster! "Financial Green' by bloggingzone.info seems to have disappeared from the catalogue. Has it been removed?

Hey, I'm part way there, thanks to you. The header is downloaded via Google. :)

As you might have guessed, I am new to this. I have the file downloaded to my computer and ready to upload to the site. Does it go to public.html or somewhere else?

It goes in the wp-content/themes/xxxx folder. The wp-content folder itself could be in public_html or if WordPress has its own folder, public_html/wordpress

And the xxxx will be whatever your theme name is (e.g. green_financ or something like that).
