    Was getting an error thus:
    Error establishing a database connection

After attempting an automatic WordPress repair, these errors remain:

Truewp_usermeta: 1 client is using or hasn't closed the table properly
Truewp_postmeta: 2 clients are using or haven't closed the table properly
Truewp_terms: 1 client is using or hasn't closed the table properly
Truewp_term_taxonomy: 1 client is using or hasn't closed the table properly
Truewp_term_relationships: 1 client is using or hasn't closed the table properly

Really need some help here, waaaay out of my depth.

    Site is takeonecff[dot]com

    Try:
    - switching to the Twenty Eleven theme by renaming your current theme's folder inside wp-content/themes and adding "-old" to the end of the folder name using FTP or whatever file management application your host provides.

    - resetting the plugins folder by FTP or phpMyAdmin.

What do this errors mean exactly, out of interest?

Your theme or one of your plugins still has open connections to the database.

Do you have a recent database backup?

Only from after the problem happened, the other is at least 3 weeks and 80 posts or so ago. Can you replace individual tables?

No - I'm afraid you can't :-( Have you spoken to your hosts about this? Are they perhaps experiencing problems at their end?

I have put a ticket out but there is no response as of yet.

Both phpMyAdmin and the wordpress repair interface claim it's ok now though.

Take me through your initial thing again.

Rename the plugins folder to plugins.hold to disable them

Then rename your current theme - how does having a child theme complicate this?

Ok, the error at the admin page has changed, it now says:

    Error establishing a database connection
This either means that the username and password information in your wp-config.php file is incorrect or we can't contact the database server at cust-mysql-123-03. This could mean your host's database server is down.

Are you sure you have the correct username and password?
Are you sure that you have typed the correct hostname?
Are you sure that the database server is running?
If you're unsure what these terms mean you should probably contact your host. If you still need help you can always visit the WordPress Support Forums.

You need to contact your hosts.
