I’m brand new to setting up a website. I got as far as setting up a domain and hosting, and downloading an FTP server and the WordPress files.

I used the one-click install in Dreamhost.com and when it asked for the domain name, I typed in my domain name.com/home. (Used the actual domain name).

Shoud I have typed that in or if I should have left that blank? If I should have left it blank, how do I change it?

    Here is what happens now…

If you go to your browser and type in my domain name.com/home, it goes to what looks like a blog page.
If you go to your browser, and type in mydomainname.com, a page from Dreamhost comes up with a message about not being fully set up.

Another question: When using an FTP file server (I downloaded FoxZilla), which IP address do you use? (At least I see something that looks like it’s requesting an IP address). I see two on my computer. Would it be from my computer or somewhere else?

  • If you used 1 click install then you do not need to download wordpress and use ftp to upload

1 click install installed wordpress in home directory and if you need to use wordpress from domianname.com
    then you have two options

Thanks govpatel. Do you need to do anything with MySQL database?

Also, I still have the issue with mydomainname.com/home. I want to get rid of the /home.

Do I need to do that in Dreamhost or WordPress?

As is you have your wordpress in home directory which is in your root the links links I posted above are your options either move all wordpress files and folders in root or use wordpress from home directory.

Your database remains the same it is that locations of your files and folder change in Settings General which will be saved in database.
