This may have been asked and I just cannot find the post…if so could someone just post the link to the response?

I am using Core FTP and I cannot upload themes properly. I have tried the default, the classic, blix etc. For some reason the style sheet, screen shot, and layout file always seem to fail. I tried using a different zip program such as coffeeshop but I am still running into this problem. 🙁

  • Fail how? 0-byte files? Failed to write? Some files are OK?

Some files are a “success” and are uploading fine and other such as the screenshot.jpg, function.php and the style sheet say they “failed”.

Does this make sense…I am clearly not good an explaining things. It almost appears as though it is partially uploading but not all the way. Is this even possible?

Yes, particularly if you’re trying to ftp ‘over/on-top-of’ a failed file. Make sure you delete the failed one and re-upload.

I tried that. Then I deleted the entire theme and tried all over from scratch and I am still getting the same problem… it continues to only upload part of the file.

Example with the leone theme I am getting this error:

Parse error: parse error, unexpected $ in /home/once/public_html/tlc/wp-content/themes/leone/functions.php on line 14

Try filezilla, works great for me and it’s free:

Smart ftp and Core ftp would not work. Downloading Filezilla right now! My fingers are crossed that this solves the problem!

Scratch that…it’s still not uploading the files.

Other considerations: Going through a caching proxy (usually dialup) can screw things up. Depending on how your host has ftp set up, you may need to select ‘passive’ mode in your client.

I am getting this on Filezilla.

Response: 227 Entering Passive Mode (216,118,97,166,109,135)

It is no longer partially uploading files… they are just “0” now 🙁

I’m not really sure what to tell you tlc, Yosemite pretty much covered it all..as far as I know. 😉 The only other thing to *possibly* try is, leaving an email addy..and *maybe*, if you would *trust* someone from here, to maybe have them try and upload the theme for you..

I know it’s a stretch..and yet.. it *might* just work that way.. or.. it might just be something with your host’s settings for something “specific”, and that theme’s “specific” files are just not being “allowed” or something maybe.. =/ I dunno.. It’s up to you..

*Could* also be..the dial up “factor”, I’m on dial up and *sometimes*, I have trouble uploading files.. but, it’s seldom though..and usually only with HUGE files …

I have emailed my host…I tried uploading some of my own things and they also do not work. It seems anything that isn’t very small… fails! I am hoping it has something to do with a setting and is easy to fix!

Thanks for all of your help!

No problem.. Also, have you tried uploading *just* those files via the CPanel.. the main site control panel?

Go to: => Files and click on the File Manager link.

Then navigate to where the theme file’s are at, and upload them one at a time, or even 2 or 3 at a time.. see if that might work.. hard to tell though, might “time out” for ya sigh.. Just thought I’d suggest it quick once.. 😉

Aaah that didn’t work and my host was able to upload things…I must be doing something wrong 🙁

my host was able to upload things…

Couldn’t you just send them the files you want uploaded and tell them where to upload it and such? Or, won’t they do that for you or something.. =/

Are you *sure* your connection settings are “right” for the FTP software client, thingy mabob? Hahaha.. damn, I’ve been sober way too long now.. haha… =P
