• I’m using FileZilla to transfer files to the server, and I need to upload a custom template. But when I try to select the template file, I can’t seem to upload the whole thing at once. Do I have to select each part individually to upload them? Is there an easier way to do this?

Also, I’m a little bit confused about how to manage the blog, now that I have WordPress on the server. How does that work?

  • Here it goes

    1. Put the templates file in a template directory with your choice of name. Select the directory and upload it into /wp-content/themes/
    directory.

You can select multiple files from the left side of Filezilla by holding down the CTRL key and clicking on each file.

    goto http://YOURBLOGURL.com/wp-admin/

A login prompt will be shown. Use your WordPress username and password to login. Then to create a new post there will be a new post button on top right. Every navigation menu is on he right sidebar on wp-content

This is pretty straight forward thing to do.

Here is the WP documentation if you want to read more.

My problem is that the blog is already up, and I can’t take it down to test the new template. I was told by my hosting company to create a separate page on which to test it, and then to redirect when I’m ready. The page is now at MYSITE.com/Wordpress. If I change the theme, it won’t alter the main blog, will it?

Also, I seem to have uploaded the template successfully (thank you)- now how do I find it? It isn’t listed under available themes.

Can anyone help me with this problem?

Is this a custom template file or an entire theme? If it’s the former, it won’t show up in Available Themes. It will be listed in the Template dropdown in Add/Edit Page.

If it’s an entire theme and it’s not showing up in Available Themes, you either haven’t uploaded it correctly or the theme is incomplete.
