[resolved] Uploading Specific Media Error (8 posts)

I'm having a problem uploading files into WordPress. I recently updated to 3.3.1 and had no problems uploading anything until a week and a half later. There have been no plugins added, removed or updated. Smaller files (<~2.5) upload fine. Larger files (6MB+) refuse to upload. The files are being uploaded onto the server and they do exist, but WordPress returns a 500 Internal Server Error with the message: "Unknown post type.", and do not show up in the media list. Instead, the loading bar freezes on "Crunching" after the file has been uploaded.

I'd appreciate any information that can help fix this problem. I can supply any extra information needed.

It's odd that this would start happening a week and a half after upgrading.

Have you check with your web host to see if they've changed their upload limit. If they have, an admin may be able to give you a higher limit.

Is it still possible that it's an upload limit problem even if the files are uploaded to the server? It's not the upload that's the problem, there's something in between when it finishes uploading the file and then is being inserted into the WordPress db somewhere. What does "Unknown post type." mean in relation to uploading files?

OK, you wrote that files don't show up in the media list. Do mean the pop up list of uploaded images when inserting in your post/page, in the media library, or both? I have seen large files get as far as "Crunching" and fail because of a server limit.

"Unknown post type." is a new one on me. Do you have any custom post types that might be broken? If you are uploading directly into a post, you might try to a page and to the media library to isolate the issue.

The files are being uploaded through the Media->Add New using both the Flash uploader and the browser uploader. Neither work with the larger files. All files (small and large) are uploaded to the server, which can be seen through FTP, but are not inserted into WordPress and do not show up in any media lists due to an error somewhere.

As far as I know, there are no custom post types interfering with the attachments. I don't see how it would only effect certain sized files, or how it would happen suddenly. How would I check to see if this is the cause of the problem?

Also, I was just informed that the site owner had attempted to upload 2 files at the same time, for the first time, right before this happened. Is it possible that this could cause an error?

Increased the memory limit 4x, and still no luck. I forgot to mention: there are two requests sent to async-upload.php. The first request returns successfully, but the second errors out in ~2 seconds returning the "Unknown post type." error, if that is any help in determining the source of the problem.

Solved the problem. There was some type of corruption in the database for the "WassUp" plugin.
