Uploading Pictures into Post

I recently started a blog on wordpress.
Sometimes uploading pictures to be embedded into a post works. More often it doesn’t. I am using the pop up ‘New Post’ at the top of the page.
Uploading a picture does seem to work with the ‘Post a Photo’ button on the left side, but I want a bunch of pictures together in one post.
The weird thing is that it sometimes does work.
