I am an absolute non-techie and was trying to upload the theme known as "mymag" through cpanel. After I login in and get to file manager I can see the folder called wp-content and once I double click on that it I can see a list of folders one of which is THEMES but on the left hand side upper corner the link is shown as p-content/themes. Shouldn't it have been wp-content/themes?

That is one doubt. In any case I extracted the zip file of 'mymag' inside this folder along with the previously present 'twenty10' folder which was there from wordpress installation. So now if I double click on mymag it looks like this: p-content/themes/mymag

But I can't see the theme in my wordpress dashboard.I can see themes which I haven't uploaded through cpanel though. The ones which I directly installed from my desktop after saving the zip files on the desktop. Can anyone tell me what is the problem and should I always upload themes using cpanel or it is fine to directly do it from my desktop?

I usually just use the themes->add new feature built into WP

you can upload a theme thats on your desktop, or search the WP theme directory and install one

Ya I can do that but will there be some issue in the future because I have not uploaded through file manager in cpanel?

    Thanks

try and move that mymag folder in wp-content/themes folder

Hmm.. it is already inside that folder. though it shows as p-content/themes/mymag instead of wp-content. I don't know why.

I guess I will just download zip files to my computer and install them using the "Install theme" feature which is built in wordpress for now. If there are any drawbacks of that please do let me know.

    Thanks

Actually, that's recommended if you can't automatically install them by searching from the Install Themes tab. Uploading via FTP or cPanel should be a last resort.
