Uploaded JPEG files get stored in Media library as TIFF files

    I have a new WP site that has an odd problem.
    When I upload a JPG file from my Mac, it gets stored in the Media library as a TIFF file.

    I’ve checked using the server’s backend and the file name is definitely .tif on the server, whereas it is .jpg on the Mac.

    Any ideas of where to start debugging this?

    Best guess – there’s something wrong with the images themselves. Possibly an issue with their encoding which is confusing the server. Have you tried uploading an unedited .jpg image that you’ve downloaded from a free photo library?
