• Ok, now I am really miffed. You mean to tell me this app was designed to have every file that is uploaded to only one folder? How is that for function? Wow.

I am using LazyImageLayout and I have to use my upload directory as a single repository for an entire photography blog site? Wow. This makes no sense.

  • This is a forum for how-to and troubleshooting not carping. If you have a question please ask it and you will get an answer – if your post doesn’t “miff” too many (some of us are fond of WP and don’t handle unconstructive and negative criticism well).

You can change where you upload things in your administration panel (see here).

As for LazyImageLayout (I’m assuming it works with Lazy Gallery?), that’s a plugin and dependent on what rules the plugin author wrote into it. Plugins are written by individuals who use WordPress, not necessarily the WordPress creators themselves. If you’ve got an issue with the plugin, you might try taking it up with its author, rather than get angry at the creators of the software the plugin happens to work with.

Above all, if you really don’t like it, you might not be the only one. Maybe you should code something different yourself and provide it to the community?

One thing I noticed about this “community” is that you ask logical questions, and they go days if not ever get a response. If you are negative, someone replaies almost immediately. What does that tell you about this “community?” Well I can say from a n00b like me who is passionate about making a blog site with some great application and there is slightly “arrogant” support, provides reasons for the “miffed” part. Apoligies for being harsh. Bottom line, Squeaky wheel gets most grease.

Regarding the comment I was referring to, is that in Moveable type, I am able to depict a location as to where I want to UL a file, on a per file basis. In WP I can define it once and then it is set. I post images almost daily and I would not want to change this everytime. Therefore I am left to FTP to a location, not a problem. However I was saying that most Plugins I was referring to use the DL location to fish out the images and create thumbnails for these galleries. That was the reason for my rant.

So once again, to those that “love” WP, can you explain why this application was designed to specify one location for uploading files? Or better yet, why does it not allow me to specify a location per upload? Thanks.

WordPress is designed to be a blog software, not a gallery.

It of course will do it, but don’t complain because it’s not working perfectly for something it wasn’t designed exactly to do.

However, there are plenty of plugins out there. Try IImage Browser (official site).

One thing I noticed about this “community” is that you ask logical questions, and they go days if not ever get a response.

    Right…

‘in Moveable type’ okay ….. well ‘in WordPress’ we do things differently. Like making things free. Don’t compare us.

‘this application was designed to specify one location for uploading files’ – as Viper007Bond has said, it’s weblog software. posting images daily. Go get Gallery.

Your time may be better spent looking for suitable alternatives once you have decided what it is you actually want.

@danmerk: Snark all you want but I noticed that all your recent question posts got responses, even if they weren’t in five minutes or exactly to your liking. I would point out that a lot of your questions can be answered by searching Codex and the forums here and some people, though clearly not all, will generally not answer questions that are already answered in these places. In the future, to save yourself time, trouble, and agitation, checking them first might be a good way to go.

Great thing here is that all of you never answered my question rather beat me back. Nice community. Thanks for the help. Still no answer…

    “Right..”

What exactly was the question? I thought it was just a rant…

Seriously? The question was that if I want to upload some files to my server, I can not do it throgh WP. Well I can, but who wants to use one single directory everytime they upload? In other systems I see that you can specify the path, but here you can only set it once, then they all go to that directory.

In what way is that a support question? You don’t like the functionality of the Upload feature. Ok that’s fine. But don’t rant about not getting an answer to your support question, when you didn’t actually ask one. You can’t ask us why something works the way it does, we’re not the developers. And answering why it is that way wouldn’t change the fact that it is.

You need to ask a question that we can help you with. How about: What image/upload plugin can I use that will allow me to specify where to upload a file to each time?

I don’t know myself. Have you downloaded some plugins to try them out?
