[resolved] upgrading to 1.1 lost the ingredients for Recipes (9 posts)

I recently upgraded to the latest version of the plugin and now the "ingredients" section where I previously entered all the ingredients, is now gone.

Also, where I had previously entered them on earlier posts, all of those ingredients are gone now too.

    How can I fix this?

    Hello Jonathan,

Well - many of the users of our plugin were not happy with the thing that plugin produced a box or data on display side of the website.

So, we minimized all possible fields and kept only the ones Google mandatorily requires to display your search results with Rich Snippets.

Though If you liked the older version, you can download it from developers tab and continue using it OR if you know PHP, you can do some coding and call the values from database our plugin created and display them on the front end with the latest version of this plugin .

Also - just FYI - we offer professional customization service as well if you need it.

    Regards,
    Sujay

    That's a huge disappointment.

I use Page.ly, so they do automatic upgrades, I can't pick and choose which plugin version to use.

To suddenly take a feature away like that, that a user like myself was used to have, is a huge mistake.

Can you at least provide instructions to how I can bring it back?

I lost a lot of data because that field suddenly disappeared.

    I understand your concern Jonathan.

At our end - it is very difficult as well to keep everyone happy (in this case it was - whether to keep maximum fields or minimum) and we usually go with what's best for benefit of our users.

Though - there is nothing to worry as we have got user like you covered as well! Just do following simple steps and you will recover fields you think are lost -

Method 1. (Via WordPress Admin) -

      1. Go to Plugins
      2. Deactivate & Delete Existing version of "All In One Schema.org Rich Snippets" Plugin
      3. Here are all the versions of plugin. Download the version you were using. (We supported maximum fields till the 1.0.4 version)
      4. Install plugin by uploading the zip file you downloaded
      5. Activate the plugin again.

    Method 2. (Via FTP) -

      1. Login to FTP
      2. Go to /wp-content/plugins/all-in-one-schemaorg-rich-snippets directory in your WordPress installation
      3. Delete all present files and folders there
      4. Here are all the versions of plugin. Download the version you were using. (We supported maximum fields till the 1.0.4 version)
      5. Extract the zip and upload all folders and files inside /wp-content/plugins/all-in-one-schemaorg-rich-snippets via FTP.

You should get what you want!

    Regards,
    Sujay

P.S - Before updating ANYTHING (not just our plugin) on WordPress - ALWAYS take backups. So you will not have anything to lose.

The problem with that process is that Page.ly automatic updates plugins for me, to help keep me on the latest version.

Plus, you're now forcing me to stay on a specific version and if there were any security holes in the future, I'm screwed.

Pretty much the only way to move forward for me, at this point, is to move away to another plugin.

That's truly unfortunate too, because you didn't give any warning to users like me, that specific functionality was disappearing between versions.

I really hope you can think about this better in the future.

    Jonathan,

It's been over 3 months now the plugin has updated to V. 1.1 And the entire age of the plugin is 4.5 months.

Not sure why you received update note so late because of which, you might have kept entering ingredients through the plugin for such a long time. You are the first user to reach out regarding this.

Also, I'm not sure if warning could have helped or would have been any different than the solution I gave you above :-)

Anyways, I regret for the inconvenience caused.
We would surely try out best to handle such future issues in a better way.

    Regards!

I've been avoiding upgrading the plugin because I had previously needed to edit the HTML inside the plugin, because there were numerous visual problems with how the HTML was being rendered.

Do you recall how the ingredients were stored? Was it a custom field? custom table?

I'll have to figure out how to recover the old ingredients and spend a bunch of time on a new plugin now.

    Jonathan,

You can check all the details you need from older version of the plugin.
