I have taken over the responibility of a blog running WP 2.2.2. I plan to upgrade it to WP 2.7. Can I go directly from 2.2.2 to 2.7 or do I have to upgrade version by version (2.3 -> 2.4 -> 2.5...).

You can go directly. Backup the database and the entire site first, of course.
