[resolved] Upgrading from 2.0 (7 posts)

I'm trying to upgrade an existing site that uses Achievements 2.3 (I know, I know, very old, but there's been extenuating circumstances that have prevented me from updating plugins on this site for a while) up to the new 3.0 system, but it doesn't seem to import any of the data from the old version. I understand that the plugin was switched from using database tables to custom post types, but it seems unfortunate that as far as I can tell there is no upgrade system whatsoever. I have a huge amount of achievements data on the existing site so importing it all by hand isn't really an option. Do you have any suggestions as to how I may be able to resolve this?

Same goes for me. I have a corporate intranet site with over 400 achievements awarded to date and can't afford to lose the history... Any help you can provide will be greatly appreciated!

Hi. Yeah, there's not any migration between 2.x to 3.x.

If either of you are PHP developers, or have someone on your teams who is, there may be an approach involving exporting the old DB tables as CSV, and importing those into Achievements 3.x via WP-CLI.

Is there any guidance you can provide on the difference in the table structures between the different versions? We have access to PHP developers.

3.x uses the post table and custom taxonomies, 2.x uses custom database tables. Look in 2.x/loader.php dpa_install_and_upgrade() for the schema.

I've started writing some notes here: https://gist.github.com/paulgibbs/6108253 -- so far this covers re-creating the achievements. It should be enough to point in you in the right direction.

Will try to update that link later this week and add some thoughts on how to re-assign unlocked achievements back to those users.

Thanks Paul! I'll be keeping up with the progress of this as well.

I'm looking at using the procedure you've outlined along with this: WordPress – Auto create Post into the MySQL database from Excel data file - See more at: http://www.phpsuperblog.com/wordpress/wordpress-auto-create-post-into-the-mysql-database-from-excel-data-file/#sthash.rmZSN7ch.dpuf

I will post how successful I am as soon as I can get my head fully wrapped around it.
