    Please help!

My site has been up and running for around 9 months now.

Somebody told me they could jazz it up for me and I foolishly let him have full access. He didn't mean any harm but he thought it better to change the site to some other system other than WordPress.

Consequently, I lost control of it......because he is not very reliable etc.

Well, I have just put it back to WordPress. I downloaded it (version 3.1.1) and unzipped it.

Last time, if I remember rightly, it auto-installed. But this time it hasn't.

Also, I cannot enter into WordPress Codex......it keeps saying that the password is wrong. No facility comes up on screen for 'lost password' - ie where your password is emailed to you.

How the hell do I get into Codex? Or get a new password?

To reiterate: (1) WP is downloaded but how do I get it to install? (2) What can I do about the password situation?

    Please help!!

    I am not very savvy!

    (1) WP is downloaded but how do I get it to install?

You may replace your copies of everything EXCEPT the wp-config.php file and the /wp-content/ directory with fresh copies. This should replace your core files without changing your content and settings in wp-config.php file and the /wp-content/ directory.
    - re-running the upgrade manually using wp-admin/upgrade.php.

    (2) What can I do about the password situation?

"should replace your core files without changing your content and settings"
Thanks.....sounds logical - even to a layman like me!
But how exactly do I run the upgrade manually using "wp-admin/upgrade.php"?
In my search for solutions, I read somewhere that you paste it into your internet browser.
But this doesn't work.....I keep getting "...cannot display the webpage".
    So how -

      exactly
    - do I run the upgrade manually?
You guys are great......but I told you I was a layman!
