• I’m not a developer so I’m in over my head.

My site is hosted by GoDaddy, who said they couldn’t help me.

Since upgrading, I cannot access my admin page, or my blog. http://www.readflyoveramerica.com

    I get blank pages.

When the problems first started, I got this error msg:

Fatal error: Cannot redeclare class Walker_Page in /home/content/92/5026492/html/wp-includes/post-template.php on line 1062

In the course of trying various fixes, I got this msg for a while:

Fatal error: require() [function.require]: Failed opening required ‘/home/content/92/5026492/html/wp-includes/classes.php’ (include_path=’.:/usr/local/php5/lib/php’) in /home/content/92/5026492/html/wp-settings.php on line 68

    Now I’m back blank pages.

    Here is what I’ve tried:

I deleted plug-ins in file manager

I changed the option_value field as suggested in phpMyAdmin (to a:0:{})

I tried renaming both Misty Look and default themes to force TwentyTen (was that the right way to do it? I wasn’t sure.)

I downloaded 3.1 again, deleted wp-includes and wp-admin, and re-uploaded those folders. I also uploaded files in wp-content, overwriting files existing files.

What next? I am slumped at my desk.

  • Your upgrade did not complete successfully.

    Try:
    – switching to the Twenty Ten theme by renaming your current theme’s folder in wp-content/themes using FTP or whatever file management application your host provides. You may need to try logging into your site to get this to kick in fully.

resetting the plugins folder by FTP or phpMyAdmin.

    – re-uploading all files & folders – except the wp-content folder – from a fresh download of WordPress.

    – re-running the upgrade manually using wp-admin/upgrade.php.

Aren’t those all the same things I described doing?

No. You need to try following the steps I gave in that order.

OK, thanks. I have now tried it all in that order except I wasn’t sure about the last step. Did some reading and did this:

Typed into my address bar http://www.readflyoveramerica.com/wp-admin/upgrade.php

    Also tried http://www.readflyoveramerica.com/upgrade.php

Is that correct? Nothing happened with either.

Also I’m not sure about this: “”switching to the Twenty Ten theme by renaming your current theme’s folder in wp-content/themes using FTP or whatever file management application your host provides. You may need to try logging into your site to get this to kick in fully.”

I can’t log into my site because I don’t get anything when I try to access my log-in.

Where is WordPress installed on your domain? You may need to check using FTP.

Also I’m not sure about this

You need to rename your current theme’s folder first in order to activate the default Twenty Ten theme. In some case, it takes 1 or 2 attempts to go to your_domain/path_to_wordpress/wp-login.php to actually trigger Twenty Ten’s activation. You don’t need to actually login – just try to login.

the same just happened to me when trying to update to 3.1 as well. same error message:

Fatal error: Cannot redeclare class Walker_Page in …/wp-includes/post-template.php on line 1062

what the. will try esmi’s advice.

…or could i download the new package and replace that one file via FTP then try updating again?

doesn’t hurt to try, i guess.

    or will it?

Did you have any luck, esmedbol?

I did everything again via FTP rather than File Manager and I’m back to this:

Warning: require(/home/content/92/5026492/html/wp-includes/load.php) [function.require]: failed to open stream: No such file or directory in /home/content/92/5026492/html/wp-settings.php on line 19

Fatal error: require() [function.require]: Failed opening required ‘/home/content/92/5026492/html/wp-includes/load.php’ (include_path=’.:/usr/local/php5/lib/php’) in /home/content/92/5026492/html/wp-settings.php on line 19

I’m not sure about checking where WP is on my domain. It appears that the path to login is http://www.readflyoveramerica.com/wp-login.php Does that sound right/possible?

i did have luck, yes. i skipped most of the steps and went straight to backing up the site in phpmyadmin then replacing all the files (except wp-content and wp-config) with a fresh install via FTP.

some files couldn’t be directly replaced so i first deleted them before reuploading the new ones. i had to shut down my FTP client and reopen it for a refresh when files wouldn’t delete.

that worked for me. the site went back up. then updating the database is easy.

lost some functionality of my plugins, but i can deal with that later.

I just upgraded two sites to 3.1. The first went fine. The second, not so much.

I followed esmi’s advice above and it worked. Thanks very much for that.

Note to self: Upgrade plugins before upgrading WordPress core files. (My issue was that one of my plugins was not the latest version and caused the entire site to go down.)

Thanks…I’ll soldier on. Something has to work eventually.

you tried doing a fresh install via ftp?

seems to fix it for most people:
