   The automated update failed. So I tried a manual update copying over all the older files on the server with the new WP 3.0.1 files. Instead of getting the upgrade page, I now get the welcome install page for a new installation.

   If I go ahead, I'm assuming it will write over the existing database and I will lose all existing content. Is that correct? Where do I go from here?

   Check your wp-config.php file and make sure that all of the values in it, including the $table_prefix, are correct.

   Woo hoo. That did it, thank you. The table_prefix was incorrect -- my mistake copying the config info to the new 3.0.1 file.
