    Hello,

I recently upgraded my wordpress site from 2.8, but since then wordpress has not allowed me to resize the images in any way including the using html editor. This includes all previous images, so the site looks rather awkward. Any ideas on what could be causing this, and how it could be fixed? Its running the Twenty Ten theme. Thanks!

    David.

  • What website?

Are you using any plugins to manage images?

    Thanks amackley,

    Oh, sorry: filmclassics.byethost18.com

No, I am not using any plugins, I simply upload them via the wordpress uploader.

    David.

Just as a first attempt, I would try working with a different browser. It may be something strange happening.

Also, I would try restarting my machine, just to make sure the memory isn’t causing me anomalies. You may be surprised at what that solves.

Typically, there are two ways to edit a photo. One, you click on the image and then a little two icons come up on top of the image. One deletes the image; the other you can click to edit. That will bring up a different editor than if you click on the image and then click the editor button on the HTML menu. Try both.

The other possibility is that there is an incompatiblity with the hosting provider. I did notice that the website responded very slowly, so that might be a problem. I host all of my sites on a cloud server, and put my video clips on a content delivery network so that they will run faster and consistently.

It looks like you have a lot of great content and could do well to create your own domain. It looks like you are hosting as a subdomain of another hosting company. You might want to upgrade.

    Thanks amackley,

I know it isn’t my machine, or the browser causing this problem. You can take a look at this to see what I mean: http://www.filmclassics.byethost18.com/?page_id=77

Before I upgraded, all the images were in neat columns and rows, and after the upgrade, it seems to be completely messed up. I have a hunch that somehow the upgrade made some command that is overriding the html commands. I’m not a whiz at coding, so I wouldn’t know, but it seems to me that would be a logical conclusion.

When I upgraded, I didn’t upgrade my theme, just thought I’d mention that in case that might have something to do with it.

If you’d like, I can send you the login information.

    Thanks again,
    David.

    Have you tried:

    – deactivating all plugins to see if this resolves the problem? If this works, re-activate the plugins one by one until you find the problematic plugin(s).

    – switching to the Twenty Ten theme to rule out any theme-specific problems?

resetting the plugins folder by FTP or PhpMyAdmin? Sometimes, an apparently inactive plugin can still cause problems.

    – re-uploading the wp-admin and wp-includes folders from a fresh download of WordPress?

    – increasing the memory available to PHP?

    David,

esmi’s comments are excellent first steps. I would probably work from the bottom of, however.

Let me know if you need some help understanding any of the steps.

I would probably work from the bottom of, however.

I disagree. Those steps are actually ordered to cover the most common issues first. In my experience, about 90% of all upgrade issues are caused by incompatible plugins or themes.

    Thanks folks,
I’ll give those a try and get back to you.

    Thanks,

Well, I deactivated all the plugins, I upgraded all of them, and deleted most of the ones I wasn’t using, but nothing seemed to work. I am actually using the Twenty Ten Theme at the moment. Like I said, it worked before the update, so I don’t think it would have anything to do with the memory. It looks fine in the visual editor.

    Thanks,
    David.

    Have you edited the theme?

    No, not a bit.

I can’t see any problem with the images on the page you linked to.

Haha, you must have just looked at it. πŸ˜‰ Thanks for all your help folks, but I just solved in the last 10 minutes πŸ˜‰ I followed this thread. Thanks again, I appreciate it.

    David.

Don’t edit the Twenty Ten theme! Your changes will be over-written the next time you upgrade WordPress or the theme. For this reason, it is recommended that you consider creating a child theme for your customisations.

I’ll take a look at it, esmi, thanks.
