Upgrade Trouble… Permissions?

    SO, I’m trying to upgrade to 2.9.1 and I get the following error:

    Downloading update from http://wordpress.org/wordpress-2.9.1.zip.
    Unpacking the update.
    Could not copy file: upgrade/wordpress-2.tmp/wordpress/wp-comments-post.php
    Installation Failed

    I thought it was a permissions thing but the “upgrade” directory is 777 … any thoughts?

    Every other similar instance of this I’ve found with the forums search suggests this is permissiosn related, but seems not to be the case with mine. Anyone else have this problem?

    and then it worked! Freakshow! I haven’t changed a thing, just waited a couple days and randomly tried again. Suggessful upgrade.

    Can any server people out there tell me if this means I have an unstable situation? What the heck would have allowed it to suddenly work after days of failures?

    Could have been a problem with the server.
