Try not using any automated scripts if you don’t want your blog screwed up.
It is not that difficult to do a manual upgrade, just follow the instructions: Upgrading_WordPress
The most important thing (always!) – make a backup of your database. All ypur content is in the database, not in the files, so the backup is vital!
Just to be crystal clear, are you saying not to use Blue Host’s simple scripts to upgrade to 2.5?
I have no idea what BH’s “simple script” is and I never trust any automated install and/or upgrade script. Ever.
But the choice is yours.
And the backup is mandatory in any case!
Thank you!
Anyone else want to chime in just for good measure or do ya’ll agree with our most valued moderator?
BlueHost Simple Scripts is a new automated script installer that the owner of BlueHost developed in order to keep scripts updated on a more frequent basis. It offers the latest scripts hours after release as well as version control if you would like to go back to a previous install version. It works great for initial installs, but is not recommended for use to upgrade previous installs that were done without Simple Scripts.
what pisses me off is that there is no absolutely safe AND no-worries way to upgrade to wordpress 2.5 or (2.5.1) for someone who doesn’t know and doesn’t ever want to know a single line of code and the meaning of “phpxml” or WHATEVER.
i want a fantastico-like thing when i click a freaking button and have wordpress. and that thing would tell me i have backups which i later may erase if i want to. would tell me “you’re cool and good to go and no need to worry and no RISKS”.
i don’t need to read no warning about my “OWN RISK”.
i signed to BLUEHOST knowing there is easy installation. now basically i’m stuck and have to do stuff at my “OWN FREAKING RISK”.
there is even no safe roll back feature. a button i can click which reverses the process if it’s gone wrong somehow.
“simple” script instructions suck anyway. you have put a single page that only talks about RISKS, no demos no nothing, no step by step.
thank you for “HARD SCRIPTS”, BLUEHOST. it has a very sleek user panel which is of NO USE though. but nice work on the visuals!!!
