[resolved] Upgrade to 2.3.1: can't access dashboard (14 posts)

    Hi!
I have upgraded an "old" 2.1.2 WP blog with the new 2.3.1.
The problem is that after the upgrade I'm not able to access the dashboard. When I try I get:

Fatal error: Call to undefined function get_admin_page_title() in /var/www/hitechmania.com/wp-admin/admin-header.php on line 12

I don't know if this could help, anyway the URL of my blog is http://www.hitechmania.com (the theme has still to be fixed for the new version). What can I do to fix it?

    Thanks,
    Salatti

    Well this works:
    http://www.hitechmania.com/wp-login.php

I'd first consider deleting the WordPress files and reuploading as per Steps 7 and 8 in Upgrading_WordPress_Extended.

You might also check your database, it seems you might not have the new terms tables. If so, after you upload the files try to execute http://www.hitechmania.com/wp-admin/upgrade.php

    @mrkingid: of course it doesn't :)

@MichaelH: I have deleted and reuploaded WordPress files but it doesn't work. When I try to execute http://www.hitechmania.com/wp-admin/upgrade.php it takes me to dashboard -> presentation and there is:

    No Sidebars Defined

You are seeing this message because the theme you are currently using isn’t widget-aware, meaning that it has no sidebars that you are able to change. For information on making your theme widget-aware, please follow these instructions.

Deactive all plugins, change theme to the WordPress Default 1.6 theme.

    Does that clear the problem?

I can't do this without access to the dashboard...the widget error page is the only one I'm able to see, and I get it by executing http://www.hitechmania.com/wp-admin/upgrade.php ...is there another way to change theme and deactivate plugins (btw, I deactivated them before the update) by changing something in the database?

    Assuming you have a backup.

Consider deleting and reuploading the 2.3.1 WordPress files as suggested in Upgrading WordPress Extended Steps 7 and 8. Then try the upgrade.

Also might delete your .htaccess file. Delete any files in wp-content/cache folder. Clear your browser cache and cookies.

Ok, so...I removed WP 2.3.1 files and restored the old 2.1.2 files.
After that, I tryed once again and I got a slightly different problem:
    on http://www.hitechmania.com/wp-admin I get

Fatal error: Call to undefined function get_admin_page_title() in /var/www/hitechmania.com/wp-admin/admin-header.php on line 12

But now if I try to execute http://www.hitechmania.com/wp-admin/upgrade.php the browser say that the page is not redirecting properly (cyclic redirect)... The URL become something like: http://www.hitechmania.com/wp-admin/upgrade.php?_wp_http_referer=%2Fwp-admin%2Fupgrade.php%3F_wp_http_referer%3D%252Fwp-admin%252Fupgrade.php%253F_wp_http_referer%253D%25252Fwp-admin%25252Fupgrade.php...and so on.

Ok, it's caused by the theme. I have fixed it. I don't know why, but with my theme I can't access the dashboard.
