I just tried the above upgrade. Afterwards I could still see my site but the categories no longer worked. Admin failed, with a message saying that my database was out of date and asking me to update it! I didn't do that - no idea what would happen.
I therefore restored my old WP 1.5 and everything is back to normal.

When you upgrade you do need to run /wp-admin/upgrade.php to upgrade your database, because there have been important changes to the db structure of 2.0 since 1.5.2.
