If I update from 2.0 to 2.2 do I have to worry about any of the code in my custom theme?

From what I understand the theme files are independent of the software and I will not have to edit any of those files. Is that correct?

But when I look at the files that have changed I see things like sidebar.php. Is that not a theme based file?

Okay then follow Upgrading WordPress procedures and then you may need to revise template tags as necessary (e.g. might need to use the template tag, wp_list_bookmarks()).

I may need to revise? Does that mean that I may not? You both mentioned template_tags but I don't see any instructions on how/what needs to be changed when upgrading. Is there a place where I can find upgrading instructions?

I don't understand why things that need to be updated are not listed in the upgrade instructions. If I click upgrade and the upgrade complete then why would I need to change anything else?

Why create custom themes and separate folders to house those themes if they need to be upgraded?

I think what they were saying is that most of your theme SHOULD carry over, but one or two template tags may have been replaced. He/She was just providing you with a link to the template tags, in case.

You can see my point though right? What does "may" need to be replaced mean. How could one know where to start?
