I believe i just upgraded WP from version 1.0.2 -> 1.2.1 . I uploaded the files to the same directory as my old WP file (.htdocs) then i ran the upgrade.php. It says all went fine, but my question is how can i tell that it is actually upgraded? I still see all the old WP files and the new WP files are in a seperate folder. Did i do it right?

If i did the upgrade right, shouldn't all the old files have been overwritten? Do i have to upload each file seperately ??

So I do have to overwrite every file one by one. I thought it was too easy the way i did it.

Well, you did say "I uploaded the files to the same directory as my old WP files" - that kinda means the same thing in your world, doesn't it?

I uploaded them in the same directory, but it created a new file.

If you want to upgrade, then you should backup important files first, then delete all the old files and upload new.
Then go through your backup files and make any necessary changes to the new files.

Wouldn't I loose all my previous posts that way?

Nope - all your posts and comments, links etc are all safely in the database.
Backup your index.php and your css - the biggest thing you will lose is all the styling and changes you have otherwise made.
In fact, backup all you think you need, and if that's all of it, at least you are safe with that.

I've got my site, but no posts. This is the error message i get:
Database error: [Unknown column 'post_date_gmt' in 'where clause']
    SELECT DISTINCT * FROM wp_posts WHERE 1=1 AND YEAR(post_date)=2004 AND MONTH(post_date)=10 AND DAYOFMONTH(post_date)=15 AND post_date_gmt <= '2004-10-18 19:20:59' AND (post_status = "publish") GROUP BY wp_posts.ID ORDER BY post_date DESC
    Any ideas?

Have you run upgrade.php ? If you have, try it again.

Oops I spoke too soon. I cannot log into wp-admin/post.php and there is no edit this link in each post.

I should have worded it differently. The wp-admin/post.php page doesn't load. I get an error message that says it cannot be found.

If you're getting page not found, then you should probably upload the files again to make sure they're all there.

Still nothing, files are there. Page cannot be displayed for the wp-admin/post.php or the login.php .

Which ftp client are you using ?
They make mistakes at times, and it wouldn't be the first time here that the files haven't actually been uploaded.

A few hours later and everything worked itself out. I got in touch with my web host and they checked everything out, said it was all fine. Maybe just a settling in period. Again thank you to all who helped me out!
