• I tried to update a new client’s wordpress blog from version 2.6.3 to 2.6.5. I followed all the directions in the “Upgrading WordPress Extended” documentation. The web site still appears to work fine (whew!), but the Admin Panel insists that it’s still the old version and still prompts me to update to 2.6.5.

I went through all the motions three times, thinking perhaps I made a mistake, but if I did I’m repeating it each time. How do I find out for sure what version is on the live site? And if it’s the 2.6.5, how do I get the Admin Panel to see that and quit prompting me to update?

    Please and thank you.

  • the readme file didn’t get updated
to check for sure, just do a “view source” on the front page

I hate to be a “me too” but the same thing has happened to me, but so far only on a single site. Other sites have upgraded successfully.

I have overwritten all files; also deleted wp-admin and wp-includes and then reuploaded files with no success.

If clearing your browser doesn’t resolve, then look at the wp-includes/version.php file as that holds the corrent version. If that says 2.6.3 then you have not correctly uploaded files.

Might also go back and download WordPress from the Download tab at the top of this page to be sure you have the correct files.
