[resolved] Upgrade from 2.1.x to 2.3.3. I'm CONFUSED! (7 posts)

Hey y'all! I haven't done any work on my WP site in ages, and to my surprise, y'all are ages ahead of me!

I downloaded the zip file from the site here, but when I go to upload the new files to my server, I can't figure out what goes where, because the zip is not unzipping into the appropriate folders.

I marked it to download to desktop\wordpress and that's exactly where it goes! EVERY FILE goes to that folder with no definition as to which subcatetory it should go to - admin, main root, whatever.

HELP! I'd love to upgrade, but I can't figure it out at all!

Might want to play with whatever you are using to extract the files from the zip.. or find something else to use - as there is a specific directory hierarchy inside the latest.zip

    winzip manages that seemlessly.

I am using Winzip. Which is why I'm confused. I think this is the reason I didn't upgrade last time as well *sigh* I just can't upgrade until I figure out what goes where LOL

I suspect the WinZip folks offer support of their product. You might try them to learn how to get back to its default behavior of respecting folders when unzipping.

Or, if using XP or Vista, use the built-in extract functionality.

Once you get that resolved and get back to WordPress issues I'm sure we can lend a hand.

OK. Downloaded WinRAR and it extracted just fine. Strange, strange things with WinZIP today. Anyways, thanks for the suggestions, and I think I'm ok from here on out!

Also, with WinZip, if the file you're unzipping consists of files in folders, once you double-click it (the file), Extract it ... that will give you a folder with all of the folders and files in the proper place.

Yeah, I don't know why it's that way (seems illogical that, by default, you'd want files without the folder structure), but that's the way it works.
