Support » Installing WordPress » upgrade from 2.1 to 2.7 database upgrade issues

  • Good afternoon,

I am trying to upgrade from 2.1 to 2.7 and I have followed the instructions for the 3 step and the extended. I copied everything over correctly, i launch the admin panel and I receive the message to upgrade the database. I click the up grade button, wait awhile and the only thig that comes up is the word press logo. Then I try to launch the admin panel again, and I receive the same note to upgrade. now if i press it again, i receive the following error.

WordPress database error Duplicate key name ‘comment_approved’ for query ALTER TABLE wp_comments ADD KEY comment_approved (comment_approved) made by wp_upgrade, make_db_current_silent, dbdelta

Is there something anyone can recommend? Should I try going to different version first, then up to 2.7?

    Thanks for any help.

  • Though 2.1 to 2.7 upgrade should work, people have better success upgrading 2.1 to 2.3, 2.3 to 2.5, 2.5 to 2.7.

To do that you’d need to DROP your database tables and restore your 2.1 database.

    Michael,

I upgraded as instructed. All looks good, so far. The one thing that baffles me is that now when i just type in the URL of the blogs, “page not found displays. If i put in the /index.php it comes up fine. Any comments on this?
