I just tried upgrading from a very early version of WP to the latest, I'm now seeing
Fatal error: Call to undefined function force_ssl_admin() in /websites/LinuxPackage03/di/sc/ov/discovery.uk.com/public_html/blog/wp-settings.php on line 512

so what's likely to be the problem please?

    Many thanks,

    BB

you dont have all the files uploaded for the version that youre trying to run.

did you upgrade manually or via the upgrade button?

I upgraded manually. This was from an OLD version of WP, I inherited it on a client site :-( The upgrade link simply didn't work when I tried it so I had to go the manual route. I did two of them, the first worked, the second didn't. I can't work out why. All help appreciated.

What I did do was save the old WP files, admin and includes and so forth, and of course I left the content files as they were. If I put the old files back up (after deleting the upgraded versions on the live site) will the blog work as before or do I have to run the install again please? The latter seems likely... :-)

re-upload the files for the last version of wordpress you upgraded to.

I did actually try that, thinking there may have been corruption... I'll download again from the WP site and have another go.

Hey, I got it! :-) I downloaded a new copy of the latest version, deleted all copies of files I thought might have got corrupted or just not ftpd up properly, and went through it all again. Happy Dance time!

Incrementally, you say? As in, don't upgrade in one big leap to the latest version, go up through all the inbetween ones? That hadn't occurred at all.

Backups, yup, used the backup plugin, plus downloaded everything here and saved.

    Incrementally, huh?
