Upgrade Doesn't Seem To Take ... (7 posts)

    Hi everyone,

I am trying to upgrade my 2.3.3 install to 2.5.1, and something is not working.

I have uploaded all the new files to my server, overwriting the old, and then I go to wp-admin/upgrade, it tells me that the database is up to date, and then I go back to the dashboard and it tells me I need to upgrade!? Eh? What gives? It still registers me as using 2.3.3!?

I can't figure this out. I have overwritten the files several times, thinking I got a corrupted file, but the result is the same. Have deactivated all plugins, have switched to default theme.

    Any help?

hi there, I had exactly the same problem.
    This is what I did.
you really need to delete all the wp- files rather than overwrite them.
make sure you keep your config.php file.
also delete the wp-admin directory and the wp-includes directory.
do not remove the wp-content directory this contains your plugins and themes.
re-install the new files and the new wp-admin and wp-includes directories. and go to your blog,
you may be prompted if any database update necessary to click a button.
    I was.
you should now have upgraded.re-activate plugins.
I hope you get there. good luck. mike

mikey1 — are you sure about keeping the wp-config.php file? The new version of that file is different from the old one and I'd be wary of not making the switch (unless of course the blog won't function if you do that...)

The config.php file contains all the info to connect to your database.
    thats why its kept.
The main difference in that file is the new secret key entry,
which I used last week when adding bbpress forum to my site.
But yes always keep your onfig file.
Also do you have a backup
    of your site.
I know how it feels, I ws very nervous of updating, but got there in the end. I hope it goes well.mike
Ps. If you are nervous of the config file, just fill in the new one before you install.its wp-config-sample.php
just fill it in and save as config.php
    good luck.

OK, this is just pissing me off now ...

Followed the guidelines above, and deleted everything, except the wp-config and wp-content directory. Still didn't work.

Hell, I erased the whole damn folder from the server, yet my blog still showed up?! What the hell is going on here? I have written the host an email, this sounds like it might be an issue on their end?

I am utterly befuddled at this point.

Hi Wes, I just came back to look at your post, it seems you are still having problems.
Have you uploaded the new files for 2.5.1 ?
I'm sure it will work out.
    mike.
