Upgrade Disaster (1 post)

Word Press wasn't updated for years. It is part of our main page. We downloaded 3.2.1 and made a backup using PHP Admin. Strangely, the WP Admin and WP Includes directories were a subdirectory of "blog" AND subdirectory of public-html\blog.

    Is this a normal configuration?

After deleting WP Admin in "blog", the upload failed midstream. When I came back onto FTP, all the sub directories were gone. I completed upload of WP Admin and WP Includes. We could still reach the page and see the old content, but lost the ability to sign on to edit via the Word Press dashboard.

WP Content only appeared in the subdirectory of public-html\blog. The old WP includes is also still there, but no WP Admin, new or old. I proceeded to update WP Content and got a white screen for the blog. I tried moving WP Content to be a subdirectory of "blog" where the new WP Admin and WP Includes also now reside. Still white screen.

Can't find the backup file. Has anyone ever heard of a bigger mess? Where to go from here?
