I may have read that previous installations more than 30 days, cannot be converted to multisite without problems
I cannot recall what version was installed, but is this still the case ??

  • There is no time-window for upgrades. It’s more based on versions.

If you are still running WordPressMU instead of WordPress Multi Site (WP 3.0 or greater), you won’t be able to automatically upgrade to the newest version of WP. You’ll have to upgrade to WP 3.0 first, then upgrade that to WP 3.1.

If you login to the admin area, on your “Dashboard” page, you should see a box labeled “Right Now”. In that box, you should see “You are using WordPress X.X.X” telling you which version you’re currently running.

    Thanks for responding Curtiss

But I have installed 3.0, but multisite is not yet enabled
I don’t want to go ahead an enable it to find out it won’t work because the installation is older than 30 days.
Can anyone verify this is no longer the case, because I am almost certain I read that this was an issue.

    thanks

No, you can convert an installation to MultiSite at any time. I haven’t heard of any issues related to how long an installation has been around. Just make sure you follow the MultiSite install instructions completely.

I don’t want to go ahead an enable it to find out it won’t work because the installation is older than 30 days.

That restriction will only limit your choice of picking SUBFOLDERS.

Subdomains will still work, it just will not let you pick a format.

If you have no posts, go change the date on the only post. It will trick it.

AND you can force it to go to subfolders or subdomains ad-hoc if you want to 🙂
