[resolved] Updating WP-Members, WP 3.5.1 compatible? (4 posts)

Please bear with me, I'm rather new at working with WordPress and I inherited a site with WP-Members installed, but it's version 2.3.2.

First, WP itself needs to be updated, I'm being notified that 3.5.1 is available (current version is WAY behind at 3.0.3!)

Second - there is no 'update' notification for the WP-Members plugin in my WP Admin, do I just unzip the new version and upload the new version to the plugins folder? Along with that, is WP-Members 2.8.1 compatible with WP 3.5.1?

I need to add a new field to the registration form too, and I've seen the instructions for that, but would the update allow me to do it during install?

Thanks for your patience with a newbie :)

Hopefully, you are not updating on a production site without testing the process on a staging server first. I'm not sure how smooth updating WP-Members from 2.3.2 to 2.8.1 is going to be.

Yes, that version is compatible with WP 3.5.1.

WP-Members now has a field editor that it didn't have back in 2.3.2, so once you upgrade, you'll be able to add/edit/delete registration fields via the plugin's option panel.

I wish I had a staging server to test it on. I've got one hosting account to work with. Fortunately, the existing site was not used all that much (last updated in 2011), so with the exception of some uploaded photos, which I can save out, losing the few posts that are in the DB would not be a huge loss. The last admin installed the WP-Members plugin, and activated it, but it was never really used, so again, no big loss.

Perhaps I should just remove the 2.3.2 WP-Members version and install 2.8.1 from scratch.

    Thanks!!

That would probably be the best scenario. Good luck!
