Updating to 2.0 through cpanel - any risks? (7 posts)

    Hi,
    I currently have WP 1.5 on my site but I wish to update it through cpanel.
    What are the chances of something going terribly wrong during the update? or is it something that always works smoothly?

    I would strongly suggest using an FTP client and following the instructions here:
    http://codex.wordpress.org/Upgrading_WordPress

    So a one-click update through cPanel is not advidsed?

    Ahh..through Fantastico? What version do they have there? 2.0? 2.0.2 just got released, so you might want to go to that.

    yes Fantastico =)
    They have version 2.0.1 ready and I currently have 1.5.1.3 installed.

    I guess after I switch to 2.0.1 they'll come with the latest version too after a while.

    So...it's safe to do it through fantastico?
    (with plugins disabled)

    I've never had a problem with fantastico. Take that for what it's worth.
