Updating Plugins causes site to enter "Maintenance Mode" (4 posts)

I've developed my WordPress themes from scratch. And now when I'm updating my plugins, the process gets stuck on Step 1/3 and my site goes into maintenance mode. I have to keep deleting the .maintenance file from my root wp folder.

    How can I fix this?

Correcting markup errors (40 errors and 4 warnings) may help.

As a test, you may revert to Twenty Eleven theme and try to install plugins. If it is possible without getting into maintenance mode, you may restore your current theme.

Backup your site (including database) first.
