Support » Fixing WordPress » Updated to 3.9 and Widget Settings Aren't Showing on Site

  • I’m running twenty eleven with a child theme. I have just a handful of text widgets running in my sidebar and footer. After upgrading to 3.9, they disappeared from my site.

Through my dashboard, I’ve moved my missing widgets from inactive sidebars back to their original positions in the main sidebar and footer areas one, two, and three, but they are still missing when I load my site.

Additionally, all that appears in the sidebar are “Archives” and “Meta” – and I don’t see a way to remove them through my widgets dashboard settings.

I’ve cleared my cache…I can’t think of what else to do.

I’d like my original widgets to appear and I’d like the Archives and Meta to disappear.

    What steps am I missing?

An update: I’ve found that the widgets are appearing on individual pages, but the homepage still displays Archives/Meta and is missing the widgets.

Are there different widget areas? So like a homepage widget area or a header widget area? Perhaps it’s hard encoded in your theme’s homepage template file?

Now, about two hours later, everything is appearing as it should, with no additional changes from me. I wish I could understand what/why it happened, though…

Thanks very much for your response, bemesign.

    Cheers xx

    Possibly a server caching issue…
