• I updated to 3.5.1 on January 25 and almost immediately daily traffic to my site (http://blog.newscom.com/) dropped by about a third and over the week it’s dropped to half of what we were getting before. As I’ve gone through the Google Analytics about it I saw that starting from when I updated to 3.5.1 on January 25 my traffic from Google.com, Google.co.uk, and Google.ca has been nearly nonexistent.

Has anyone else noticed a problem like this? I can’t figure out what would be wrong, but we’re mostly a photo site, so perhaps there’s something that changed with the image metadata on the update? Any ideas on where to look for a problem would be appreciated.

  • Are you getting any errors on the Webmaster Tools of Google . Specifying those errors can be helpful.

I just set the blog up with the Google webmaster tools when I saw your post. So it’s been up for only 2 hours, but it’s not coming up with any errors.

Perhaps Google may have done an update and this may have nothing to do with WordPress update.
I have seen that Google keeps updating its algorithms very frequently.

We’re having the same problem as you. Dramatic (70%) dropoff in Google-generated traffic referrals. I noticed in our search terms list that common terms that bring readers to some of our images are gone, so I suspect that you are right that this issue is, at least in-part, image-related. I just can’t tell if that is on our side or Google’s, but now that I know there are some others having this issue I’m thinking it might not be only a change in Google algorithm, but something that changed in WP2.5.1. Could it be something that changed our tags on images? I’ll let you know if I find anything. (http://marinesciencetoday.com)
