One of my clients is using WordPress and recently updated the theme he is using (Atahualpa 3.6.7). Now he has to use &nbsp to force a space after any punctuation mark. If he doesn't force spaces, he will end up with a paragraph like this:

A bereaved family member mourns near the Wall of Names near the crash site of Flight 93 in Shanksville,Pa.,on Sunday Sept.11,2011.Todd Beamer was a passenger on this flight. He and others aboard are credited with revolting against the terrorists.Beamer is known for saying,"Let's roll,"before fighting back against the hijackers.Todd Beamer High School in Federal Way is named in his honor.

This didn't happen before he updated the theme. Anyone have an idea what could be causing this, and more importantly what we could do to fix it?

This is an example of a blog post where he did not force spaces:

there should be topics in the atahualpa forum about this problem, and also here - something to do with css minify (?)

Thanks alchymyth. I will have to check out that post in greater depth. I only scanned through it yesterday, but it looked like there was a solution in there somewhere.
