Yesterday I made some content updates at my long-neglected website, after which I updated the theme. Now, I get a fatal error whether trying to pull up the website online or even just trying to log in to my dashboard!

Here’s the error that comes up:

Fatal error: Cannot redeclare widget_twitter() (previously declared in /home/content/63/6848663/html/wp-content/plugins/twitter-for-wordpress/twitter.php:147) in /home/content/63/6848663/html/wp-content/plugins/twitter-for-wordpress/twitter.php on line 147

I finally have the potential for some business coming my way and really need to access my site and fix this. Someone please, please, please, please help!

  • Do you have FTP access to your website? If so what you need to do it log in and go to /wp-content/plugins/. It looks like the twitter-for-wordpress plugin might be having a problem, so download a copy of it to your computer and then delete it from the server.

If you continue to get errors you can try right clicking on the /plugins/ folder and rename it temporarily to see if disabling all plugins helps

Alright, I did that. Now I have a NEW fatal error:

Fatal error: Call to undefined function wp_get_theme() in /home/content/63/6848663/html/wp-content/themes/evolve/library/functions/options.php on line 11

This time I actually got to the sign in page for the dashboard, but receive this message upon a log in attempt.

    UPDATE:

Per advice found on THIS PAGE, I downloaded the most recent version of WordPress to my desktop.

I accessed my GoDaddy FTP File Manager.

I updated all the files EXCEPT the wp-content folder.

Now I can access my dashboard and my site is viewable again, although the theme has gotten JACKED. My custom header and colors are lost. Looks like I’ll be doing some rebuilding, but the good news is I’m back online.

Thanks for the help, jessn & grayscalexlii.
