Support » Fixing WordPress » Updated plugin -> deleted itself

  • Hi there,

I updated my “Jetpack” plugin and it ended up deleting itself and everything included inside. I had an e-mail list going on and it also managed my comments.

When I tried reinstalling it, this message came up:

    Downloading install package from https://downloads.wordpress.org/plugin/jetpack.3.0.2.zip…

    Unpacking the package…

    Installing the plugin…

    Destination folder already exists. /home/domain/wp-content/plugins/jetpack/

    Plugin install failed.

Is there anything I can do to re-install it with all of my old settings in there? Im assuming its not lost since the destination folder still exists but I have no idea how to find it.

Thank you for reading and I hope this is an easy solution. I am not that computer savvy when it comes to the back-end of websites.

You won’t lose your subscribers, those are all stored on WordPress.com’s end, so don’t worry about that.

For a quick fix, access your server via FTP or SFTP, navigate to /wp-content/plugins/ and delete the /jetpack/ directory. Then attempt to install it again from your blog’s Dashboard.

If that doesn’t work, contact the Jetpack folks via http://jetpack.me/contact-support/

Thank you for the quick response! I downloaded FileZilla and deleted the entire folder under the plugins category.

This message is still coming up when I try to install int again in my dashboard:

    Downloading install package from https://downloads.wordpress.org/plugin/jetpack.3.0.2.zip…

    Unpacking the package…

    Installing the plugin…

    Destination folder already exists. /home/me/mydomain.com/wp-content/plugins/jetpack/

    Plugin install failed.

Any ideas why this is happening? Thank you for your time.
