Maybe NG has implemented this directly in the past year or so from my first post, but I can’t find it. When I tried the above procedure with a new site installation, something didn’t work. The first (specified in the link) image opened but the gallery itself didn’t work – i.e. there were no “back / next” buttons, just the specified image. Clearly something has changed…

NEW PROCEDURE FOR LINKING A IMAGE (OR TEXT) TO A LIGHTBOX

Using the newest versions of WP and NG (as of 04-29-14) here are the modifications that worked for me…

    1. Do everything the same EXCEPT the REL= is no longer important, but the CLASS= is now important
    2. Remove this entirely: rel=(whatever)
    3. Specify this: class="ngg_lightbox"

Note: I have my NGG style set to “Lightbox” so that’s the class called. If you have a different setting (i.e. “Thickbox”) I suppose you would need to call that in the CSS as well. (???)

As before, this worked for me – your mileage may vary. Shalom!

Sorry everyone – after further checking, the above procedure works and does call up the gallery (with back / next links) but does NOT call the style setting from the “Lightbox Plus ColorBox” plugin, which to me is also important. If anyone can help with THAT, please let me know…
