[resolved] Update YouTube oEmbed with new HTML5 compatible embed code! (8 posts)

YouTube recently started testing a new embed code that uses inline frames instead of adobe flash embeds.

I use WordPress' oembed feature which currently picks up the Adobe Flash code.

The question I want to ask is... Is there anyway, I can modify WordPress to use the new inline frame code for YouTube based oembed? Or is the code provided by YouTube and they would have to make the change on their end?

any ideas? who exactly is providing the embed code? wordpress or youtube? this question has been baffling me for so long now!

Update: Realized that YouTube has to update their API thingy. Posted on their support forum... http://www.google.com/support/forum/p/youtube/thread?tid=64460672eb97f073&hl=en

    Sorry!

hi sushubh. i wrote a plugin that can (optionally) use youtube's html5 embed code. links have to be of the httpv://www.youtube.com/... form though (as in smart youtube), but on the bright side wp-youtube-lite comes with better download & rendering speeds then youtube embeds.

Just to answer this question directly, the code is provided by YouTube when the OEmbed request is made. They'll probably change it when their HTML5 beta period is over.

thanks futtta i would look into it.

James! the beta testing period is over. the new embed code is provided on all videos now. just not by default.

looks like they are either avoiding putting it on their oembed system or simply forgot about it.

had to state another thing here. flickr oembed feature is also currently broken. a couple of users have alerted flickr about it but their customer support guys are well... hopeless!

No, the HTML5 player is still in beta:

The purpose of the new iFrame embed is to allow either the Flash or HTML5 player to display depending on your settings. You still need to be enrolled in the HTML5 beta to see the HTML5 player via the new iFrame embeds.

YouTube has stated that they will completely switch over to the iFrame embed code when the HTML5 beta period has ended.

That's up to Flickr to fix. For now, try this plugin instead:

i was using that before wordpress implemented oembed. :D

now a lot of my embedded videos are not working because i WAS using that plugin (it puts youtube bbcode around youtube links).

i am pretty happy with oembed. seriously. i just hope that the service providers keep it updated and more CMS solutions integrate it!
