[resolved] Update to 3.0.4 theme Gone. BACKUP YOUR THEME! (14 posts)

After I updated my theme is gone. Gone from the theme page, gone from the server. WordPress either deleted it or wrote something over it. Is it even allowed to modify the theme folder? Anyways, my weekend just took a turn for the worst, I'll be rewriting the theme from memory.

Don't just back-up the database, backup your theme.

which theme? WordPress updates should not interfere with other plugins, or themes.

thematic and my thematic child theme. They are both gone. Like wordpress did a fresh install and deleted everything. I keep looking at my ftp thinking I'm dreaming.

I did a back-up and then used the one click update.

  4. thematic and my thematic child theme.

WordPress autoupdate DOES NOT delete or override ANY theme except TwentyTen (and previously 'default' and 'simple'). Never has, never will, cannot, does not, will not.

That's interesting because it just did. It deleted both. I have no other explanation. Let me retrace my steps.

I got the please update e-mail. I logged in. Backed up using WordPress Database Backup. Deactivated all plugin's except Akismet. Downloaded the back-up. Then I pressed update automatically and it went to work. After wordpress said the update was successful I checked my site and it was using Twenty Ten. I went to themes and saw twenty ten was the only theme currently installed. I then connected to my webhost using Transmit (mac) and looked at the theme folder. Both thematic and my child theme are gone.

So if wordpress did not delete them what or who did. They where there before the update, they are gone after. I don't know what else to make of it.

    P.s:

I have done the same procedure at least 4 times before and never had this problem so I can only assume it has something to do with the update. I just sent an e-mail to the creator of thematic. Maybe he has an idea what happened.

Were any of your plugins deleted?

No all the plugins are still here.

  9. I ran the auto-upgrade multiple times on multiple servers yesterday and today and didn't have a single issue. That said. Early on, like when 3.0.4 was JUST released, there were some sync issues (which is why they weren't announcing it then). It's plausible that you got a bad upgrade, but even then, this is a pretty rare (like I didn't see any one else with this issue) problem.

The WordPress installer doesn't delete files, last I checked. Not even deprecated ones. Overlay, yes, but not delete. I'm skimming source right now, and I'm about 99% sure the auto doesn't delete.

It DOES delete plugins, when you update THOSE, but not the core.

As I said, I did this a couple of times before and everything went perfect so it is definitely an anomaly but a very unfortunate one indeed.

My only hope is maybe it moved it somehow, but I've been checking all the files over and over and it's just not there. I know my webhost makes a daily backup. Hopefully they can restore the site. I'm just a bit scared they won't be reading tickets tomorrow with the new year and all.

  11. Well, it goes without saying that you should ALWAYS make backups of everything before you upgrade. Computers are out to get you.

Same problem here, I officially hate the update button. And thanks for warning me WordPress, not.
